THE HEART OF THIS BOOK
WHAT IF WE TAUGHT CHILDREN TO TRY BEFORE FEAR TEACHES THEM NOT TO?
A gentle story where Finn, a little boat, is on a journey to inspire children and adults to believe in themselves, encourage children to be brave enough to try, step by step, even when things feel scary.
Because courage is not the absence of fear;
it’s the decision to try.

About the Author
Elsa Stewart is a mum, storyteller, and believer that courage grows through action.
Originally from Mexico and now living in New Zealand, Elsa wrote The Little Boat Who Was Afraid to Sail to encourage children—and quietly remind adults—that fear doesn’t disappear by waiting. It becomes smaller every time we’re brave enough to take the next step.
Why I Wrote This Book
Over the years, I’ve met many wonderful adults who carry dreams they never pursued—not because they lacked talent, but because they were afraid to try.
Through my own experiences, I’ve come to believe that somewhere along the way many of us begin to see mistakes as something to avoid, rather than a natural part of learning and growing.
Little by little, the willingness to try can be replaced by the fear of failing.
This book was written with the hope of protecting that spark in children before it fades.
If we can teach children that trying is more important than getting everything right, perhaps they’ll grow into adults who are willing to dream, explore, fail, learn, and try again.
Because courage isn’t the absence of fear.
It’s choosing to take the next small step anyway.
